English as a Second language classes Alexey Cheremnykh and Virginia Simmons signed a contract with Marshall University to offer English as a Second Language classes to Russian students. On June 23, the first English as a Second Language (ESL) class will arrived. Most of these students where from Moscow State Social University and are part of a month long program headed by Dr. Will Edwards at Marshall. Some of these students, Oleg Rheshetin and Boris Antonian, have very close friends in West Virginia. We welcome their return to our state. During the ESL Classes, students will have 20 hours of intensive study per week and they will also take many cultural and educational tours of our state. This is the first group of its kind to come to our state. With the success of this first class, Alexey predicts that many more students will be coming to West Virginia to study ESL. If you want more information concerning this program, contact Dr. Edwards at Marshall University Often, we have telephone calls that ask if such classes are available. Many of our institutions of higher education now provide such classes. For those who want to be with other Russians, you may want to call Alan Liebrecht at UC or contact us later as we start more and more classes. |
