Student Exchanges

What's Happening With Our Students

If  you are young and you visit Russia, your life is changed forever.  Each student who has participated in our exchange would declare the truth of the previous statement.  Lives are definitely changed as Russia is opened and one doesn't have to be inundated with the prejudices of the cold war to be affected. All of the students who have participated in the exchange can tell a story.  Any articles from these students are appreciated and should be sent to Virginia Simmons.  This column will concentrate on the "long-term" exchanges.

Our first Russian students, Sasha Byzamanny and Dmitri Saveliev have graduated from college.  Sasha is married and living in the United States.  Dmitri has completed his masters degree and is working for a fortune 500 company out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Presently, Dimi is living in Elyria, Ohio and is working on a special project for his company. SUCCESSFUL

Good new Segey Alexeev has graduated with honors from Fairmont State College. His dad, mom and brother Anton, came to the graduation for this wonderful celebration.  After graduation the family spent time with Bill and Marge Loope and were welcomed by about 50 of their West Virginia friends and the home of James and Virginia Simmons for a congratulations reception.   Sergey has been accepted at UNC Charlotte to work on his Masters degree or MBA in international business. SUCCESSFUL

Melissa Baker  has had great experiences in the summer studying at Huntsville and AMES in California.  She is immersed in the aerospace industry.  Vitaly Daminov and Sarah Lewis spent last summer working on experiments for MIR while they were in Huntsville.  Sarah is busy applying for exciting positions associated with aerospace for this summer.

Boris Antanian was majoring in Print Management at WVU-Tech.  Thanks to Kelsey Hayward for being his WV father.

Evgenia Svetkova  at Concord and has now broken the cross country record.  She is joined by Masha Saveliev who is also excelling in academics.  Thanks to Carol Morgan for all her work with these girls.

Adam Thompson was "kicked-out" of Russian Language classes at Georgetown University.  After spending almost a year in Korolev, Russia, he was too fluent in the language.

Yelena Shilova was a student at the School for the Blind for 3 years there.  Many thanks to the West Virginia Board of Education and the many others who have made this possible.  Yelena is graduating from high school in Russia this year and hopes to return to the United States for college.  Ben Elkins, Ann Reid and Debra Cook, we salute you for caring for Yelena.

Sasha Golubtsov completed 2 years at West Virginia State College and is how studying in Canada now.  Dr.  Charlotte Giles of West Virginia State College was Sasha's American mother while he was a student at there.

Evgenia Levchenko is at West Liberty College in August.  During the summer she was a student at Governor's Honors Academy.  Thanks to Kelsey Hayward for being her WV father.
